Knights Ferry News 3/30/22 - Oakdale Chief

Last week we got a little scared when a Gilton Solid Waste garbage truck caught fire between the 50s Roadhouse and the bridge. Firefighters and law enforcement responded to the call and firefighters were able to put out the fire before things got out of hand! The road was blocked for about 20 minutes and then opened to one-way traffic.

Make known! Main Street at Knights Ferry will be closed on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from approximately 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a detour on the side streets but it is not accessible to large vehicles such as trucks and trailers and motorhomes. Volunteers will be posted to help keep traffic flowing safely, so be patient with them if they ask you to wait for oncoming traffic.

The Knights Ferry Classic Car Show is coming on Saturday April 2, 2022! Check-in for cars/trucks begins at 6:00 a.m. and the show runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (rewards at 2:00 p.m.) on Main Street at Knights Ferry. It’s going to be a great day in town! Parking for those coming to enjoy the day is available in the park’s parking lots and will include the “Rafters Parking Lot”. The parking lot has a $5 parking fee payable at stations located around the parking lots. A tip for the day is to come into town from the highway to avoid the detour traffic on the side streets of town. For questions, call Chris Peterson at 209-402-9831.

I’m so sorry to hear that Charlotte Haley passed away on March 24. Charlotte was a sweet and generous woman. She regularly attended Community Club events with her daughter, Charilyn Damigo. Charlotte had a very calm presence and although she didn’t have as deep roots as others in the area, she was happy to be a part of our activities. I will pray for Charlotte’s husband, Ben and her daughter, Charilyn. Charlotte’s funeral will be held April 2 at 11 a.m. at River Oak Grace Church in Oakdale.

The Knights Ferry General Store celebrates its 170th anniversary this year! The General Store has been the backdrop for beautiful photography and a popular stop for biker groups and tourists looking to sip a delicious Bloody Mary or an ice-cold beer. It has markers on the wall to show the depth of the floods which destroyed many buildings in the city on several occasions. As a kid I grew up coming to the general store after school with change to buy Rick and Glenda candy and as an adult I was finally able to get into the saloon. If you’ve been at Knights Ferry for a while, you know it was almost a rite of passage to step into the Saloon at the age of 21! And these days, I still appreciate the familiar face of Rick Maisel standing behind the store and the saloon bar counter.
